5 Best AAA Batteries Reviews – Longest Lasting And Cheap Value Choice

Finding the best AAA batteries in a sea of choices today is not really easy.

But it is well worth it.

You don’t want to switch brand after brand because the batteries keep dying on you. I hate it when I receive the battery package, open it, put them in my TV remote for an example, and they just die a day later. That makes me really upset.

You don’t need to relive my frustrations with the aaa batteries because I decided to write this guide and cover the best triple a batteries you can get.

Once you know what to look for, the experience becomes easy. Just put them in your device and mostly it is set and forget.

5 Best AAA Batteries Reviews

I had a lot of experience with various batteries. AA, AAA or even AAAA (yes, those exist), more task specific types like 18650 and others. I have tried many brands and have been following what other people from the battery community have experienced.

It is not good enough just to base my reviews on my personal experience. Some brands seemed okay by me but when you see that other people are not as lucky then you have to readjust.

I chose the reviews below in good faith, based on my experience and in conjunction with a ton of research I made to see what other people experienced. However, the batteries below, while being the best are not perfect and on a case by case basis could provide you with a bad experience.

If I had taken into account every negative experience I found in my research, I would have to completely disregard all of my positive experiences over the years and I would literally have no battery to recommend. It is impossible to find something that fits everyone.

Having said that, let’s proceed to what will be the best AAA battery choice for pretty much everyone out there. You should choose your pick based on your needs and the budget as I will explain in the article.

Let’s go.

1. Energizer AAA Lithium Batteries – Best overall

The Energizer AAA Lithium Batteries are the best AAA lithium batteries and best overall. The thing is they are lithium based, not your regular alkaline battery. They work just like any other alkaline 1.5 volt aaa battery only much better, stronger, and pricier.

I don’t think that you can find a more durable battery out there but this is definitely not a value choice. These are the strongest, but per dollar, they do not offer more energy. The next choice will be the best value choice.

Comparison of regular alkaline Energizer Max with Energizer lithium on the right. Lithium lasts way longer than alkaline.

But here are the reasons to buy this battery even if it is more expensive than the amount of power it provides.

The lithium based batteries are much more stable, they are far less likely to leak and they provide much more power on a single cell basis. This means that you will be changing out batteries far less often which in turn means that you will save yourself the trouble of doing it.

They endure extreme temperature range from -40 to 140F and have the longest lasting aaa battery shelf life of up to 20 years. So if you buy a bigger pack in order to reduce the price, you will get a better deal because you will spend them in the 20 years period for sure.

These batteries from Energizer are an excellent choice when you need a high power output for a prolonged period of time or when you want to put them in a device and set and forget. Since they last so long they are perfect for devices in difficult to reach areas like high wall clocks and similar.

They definitely cost more than any other battery on this list but per individual cell, they last longer too because they pack an immense amount of charge. So my suggestion is to get them if you are okay with paying more for your own convenience because you will need to change them less often.

2. Allmax AAA Maximum Power – Best value

Now lets talk about the best value AAA batteries. The Allmax maximum power.

These batteries are incredibly good for their cheap price. Cheap AAA batteries usually don’t provide people with a good experience but in Allmax’s case, that is quite the opposite.

They have an excellent amount of charge for the money, have a shelf life of up to 10 years, their design is very good when it comes to leaking prevention and they are cheap. What more could you ask for?

Oh and they are also extremely cheap when bought in bulk. I recommend a 48 pieces package.

But isn’t 48 a bit too much? No, it is not because they will last you for 10 years no problem. And that way you get them extremely cheap when compared with other brands. Other batteries on this list may offer more charge per cell basis but they do not offer the best price per amount of charge per cell basis.

That’s the thing. These batteries will give you more energy for your money even if you would switch them out more often than some other brand.

If you want the most for your money then this is definitely a way to go. However, keep in mind that buying batteries in bulk just because they are cheaper is not really best for the environment. Two or three of these batteries will be cheaper than a single Energizer Lithium battery above and will provide a similar or more charge but you will also need to switch it out two or three times depending on the device and you will discard more dead batteries that need to be recycled or disposed of somehow.

3. AmazonBasics 100 Pack AAA High-Performance Alkaline Batteries – Second value choice

Similar to the Allmax above, the AmazonBasics brand provides a great value choice if you buy them in large quantities. It makes sense to do that if you expect that you will be able to spend 100 batteries in a 10 year time which is their shelf life.

The AmazonBasics are a pretty good cheap AAA battery brand. They are your standard alkaline 1.5v AAA battery that will do just fine with flashlights, TV remotes, computer mouse or keyboard and similar devices.

Unlike Allmax however, they have a bit more of a proclivity for leakage from what I can tell. But those are minor differences. The AmazonBasics has a pretty good leak proof design that is on par with their price.

Overall, I recommend them as a value choice too. But I do believe that the Allmax offers more for your buck because you don’t have to buy 100 pieces to get an absolute low market price and because they offer more charge per cell basis.

4. Rayovac AAA Batteries

Now let’s move on to the alkaline batteries that are very powerful but not a value choice anymore. The no1 pick was from Energizer and it was a lithium battery but let’s see some great alkaline long lasting batteries that are per cell high energy but also high price.

The Rayovac High Energy is made in the USA and it is one of the best aaa batteries you can get today. Packed with energy, these alkaline batteries will be a great choice for high drain devices like toys, flashlights, humidifiers, game pads, handheld GPS devices, walkie talkies and similar.

They are also a very good choice for low draining devices thanks to their low self discharge. They have a 10 years shelf life which means that they do not lose much energy on their own.

They are safe to use and have excellent leak proof design.

While they are expensive, you can get the price down buy buying a bigger package.

Overall, I have a high opinion of Rayovac and I didn’t have any negative experience with their batteries. They have my recommendation as a great high energy per single cell basis battery but not as a value choice as they do cost quite a lot.

5. POWEROWL AAA Rechargeable Batteries

In case you plan on using AAA batteries a lot or just want to be as environmentally friendly as possible then rechargeable AAA batteries are the best option.

But it goes further than that. It saves you money and trouble of constantly getting new batteries.

The rechargeable batteries from the POWEROWL brand are some of the best there are out there and they come in a package of 24 pieces. Plus they are not very expensive. You can get them cheaper than let’s say 24 pieces of Energizer’s lithium AAA batteries.

So there really isn’t a reason not to get them if you plan on using batteries all the time. TV remotes, toys, flashlights, computer accessories and everything else will be efficiently powered with them.

They are a Nickel-Metal Hydride or NiMH for short, type of a rechargeable battery and they can be reused up to 1200 times. You are probably never going to use them that many times which means that once you buy them, you are set for a long time. Just don’t forget to buy a charger too. Any NiMH AAA battery charger will do.

These batteries have a bunch of safety features that other brands don’t have. They are very leak proofed and on top of that, they have a special temperature control valve which is meant to release internal gas pressure if something is to go wrong with the battery. That way nothing really bad can happen. I didn’t see many brands take their safety precautions that far.

They are a high capacity battery with its 1000 mAh charge and they keep their charge for a long time. Overall, I recommend them as an excellent choice for AAA rechargeable NiMH 1.2v batteries.

How to Choose an AAA Battery for You

image of the AAA batteries

Depending on your use frequency you will mostly be choosing between the single-use disposable aaa batteries and their counterparts, the rechargeable batteries.

In this brief buying guide you will learn their differences and what should you consider when making a choice.

Alkaline and Lithium Batteries – Single use

These are not rechargeable at all and you shouldn’t attempt to charge them.

Alkaline batteries are your standard choice and are widely available. They are cheaper and if you get them from a good brand they will last for a long time. They are heavier than lithium batteries, have less of a temperature endurance and are more prone to leakage.

Lithium batteries on another hand, like the one I recommended from Energizer, have more charge than alkaline batteries, they are much safer when it comes to leakage and are much lighter. They can endure harsh temperatures better than alkaline batteries too.

Lithium AAA batteries make a great choice if you want to power a device for a long time and don’t want to trouble yourself by switching out batteries. Alkaline batteries will not last as long no matter how you look at it because they are simply inferior to them.

Nickel-Metal Hydride NiMH – Rechargeable

I usually prefer rechargeable batteries but they are not always feasible and it depends on the way you like to organize. Using rechargeable AAA batteries means that you need to think ahead and have them charged.

They are an excellent choice for high draining devices that you will be using frequently like digital cameras, walkie talkies, GPS devices, flashlights, music players, handheld consoles, small kitchen appliances like pepper grinders and similar.

Why?

Because such devices will eat through even the best AAA batteries quite fast. It is much more affordable to use reusable batteries than to keep buying new ones plus it is better for the environment.

The most common type of reusable 1.2v battery for households are the NiMH batteries that have become the standard today. They are very reliable, cheap, have good anti leak features and if bought from good brands like Ikea, Panasonic Eneloop, Rayovac or the POWEROWL that I like the most for AAA batteries, they will have low self discharge.

This is not a given. Bad brands will have a high self drain rate so be careful of which NiMH battery you buy.

In case you are looking for the best aa batteries too, I also wrote about them. Follow that link to see a huge guide I wrote and to read the reviews of the top choices that you can get today. The story is pretty much similar to the AAA type but there are some different brand recommendations.

Some brands held up better for the AA when compared with their AAA lines, from what I concluded based on my research.

Conclusion

In the end, I would just like to say that you should buy AAA batteries according to your needs and the budget you have available. Maybe getting the Allmax value package is the best for your case. If you are burning through batteries on simple house electronics like TV remotes, computer mouse or similar. That way you will have a pack that will last you a long time.

Or if you are powering demanding devices like cameras, recording equipment, GPS devices or similar then you will either want to get a powerful single use pack of batteries, a good rechargeable AAA batteries or both.

Why both?

Well because sometimes you might need more juice than what the rechargeable batteries can provide on the go or if you want to be safe and have energy available and ready if you forget to charge your batteries.

I hope you learned something new today and that I helped you figure out what is a top AAA battery for you. If you found this guide helpful, feel free to share it with your friends. Maybe they can save some money as well by not buying the wrong stuff.
